Newsletter - March 2010

We must have broken a record. Our last shipment of sculptures from Zimbabwe took just less than 6 weeks this time, included making of boxes, packing and road freight to Cape Town. To get this kind of efficiency we registered a friend of mine to become an exporter who could do all the documentation. This was a bit costly, however, it saved weeks in time.

There is not a lot of news. Our new exhibition is up and running well at the premier wine estate Blaauwklippen. This estate is part of the Arabella Group of companies. Third generation sculptor Euwitt Nyanhongo was demonstrating how stone is carved and there has been considerable interest. Euwitt was in attendance until 21 February 2010. We have already sold 2 of the pieces that was carved by Euwitt.

Our next exhibition overseas will be at the 5 star Park Hotel in Bremen, Germany. The exhibition will open on 6 May and close on 11 July 2010, the same day of the world football cup final. Godfrey Mutembuka will be the sales person in attendance. We are hoping to have 16 sculptures outside and in the garden and about 25 sculptures inside. There will be a vernissage on the evening of the 10th of May and all interested parties to please contact Mr Ulrich Ponte should you wish to be there.

Park Hotel

From the Park Hotel the sculptures will return to the Hotel Nassauer Hof in Wiesbaden. Our exhibition there, to run from 29 August until 31 October, just before it gets cold and wet. Once again there will be 10 sculptures outside and 20 inside.

We are desperately trying to find suitable new venues to hold exhibitions in Europe and England for 2011. These are always difficult to find as we prefer venues where we can work with the locals and people at the venue. It is always an added advantage if the venue is such that we can exhibit sculptures inside and outside. The outside sculptures vary in weight from 50 to 80kg and the inside less than 50kg.

A lady contacted us last week, regarding a Casper Darare sculpture she, and that she would like to sell. It's a beautiful piece of a woman with bare breasts. It weighs approximately 32 kg, is 52cm tall and 37 wide. If anyone is interested, please contact her. Rochelle Cherniak 021 855 1671 / 082 414 2049. She will be able to send you some pictures of the sculpture.

News in general.

I will be travelling to Zimbabwe to obtain sculptures for exhibitions in Germany. After trying to phone various artists it had been brought to my attention that many artists have left Zimbabwe and are working in South Africa. This is mainly due to the very serious economic climate in Zimbabwe. The artists that I spoke to are saying that there are not many of them left because it has become to expensive to obtain stone and the restrictions to get sculptures out of Zimbabwe has made there friends move to South Africa. The word from Zimbabwe is that everything has become exceptionally expensive and the local inhabitants are leaving and going to neighbouring countries to find work. They all say that they can not say what the future will hold. It is such a pity, because we are loosing all this talent.

Till next time...
