Tonderai Nyagato
Tonderai, born in 1977 in the Nyanga region of Zimbabwe, a region popularly known for it?s rising mountains and captivating scenery. He attained his primary education at Samatinha School and then went on to receive his secondary education at Saint Monica Secondary School up to Ordinary Level, which he completed in 1994.
Tonderai developed a deep love for art as a young boy growing up in an environment that had given birth to many successful artists. It was no surprise that after completing his high school education and after trying out various jobs, Tonderai finally settled for what was truly at his heart, stone art.
Tonderai enrolled at the mash Home Gallery and Workshop where he worked as an assistant and apprentice. Through the encouragement and motivation from his more experienced cousins, Tonderai´s talent and credibility began to take root.
He has had the privilege of having several of his pieces featured in exhibitions in such countries as the USA, South Africa, Holland and many others. Some of his works have also been exhibited at Chapungu Sculpture Park.
Tonderai is comfortable working with any type of stone, but he prefers Opaline and Springstone because their colour and texture harmonise perfectly with his themes and subjects.
