Taguma Mukomberanwa
Taguma was born in 1981 in Ruwa, Zimbabwe. He is the youngest child born to Nicholas and Grace Mukomberanwa. Taguma´s primary education was done at Thorncroft Park Primary School in Ruwa and his secondary education at Churchill High School, Mutambara High School as well as St. Vincent High School.
He acknowledges having a basic education, but his greatest moment is when he chips away the stone. He says, ´´when I´m sculpting, all the lessons are around me, the shape of the stone inspires me leading me to the final expression of the sculpture´´.
He started sculpting at an early age. His parents encouraged him. Taguma has developed into a fine stone sculptor.
´´I´m here on earth not as a master who takes away, but as a servant who adds and enhances what already exists´´, he said. His work is stylised and elaborate.
Taguma´s favourite stone is cobalt. He likes it´s reddish colour accompanied by its green and deep veins. He also sculpts in springstone, serpentine, opal stone and verdite.
Taguma´s first major exhibition was in Heidelberg, Germany in 1998. It was a family exhibition. He feels it was a good way to be introduced to the art world with the family. Since then he has exhibited in Europe, North America, Zimbabwe and Africa.
Nicholas´s influence is very apparent in Taguma´s sculpture. He could be a mirror image in many.
