Square Chikwanda
Square Chikwanda, born in 1972 and is of Malawian origin.
When he was seven he moved with his father to Tengenenge. He finished primary school and learnt to sculpt in 1984 at the age of twelve.
Initially, Square´s mentor was Bernard Matemera and many of his early works reflect the influence of this great first generation sculptor. However, Square has concentrated on developing his own strong individual style with much success and recognition. Square´s work almost looks like it belongs in a future era, ahead of its time and place. He works mainly from black serpentine and his work is always well polished.
At a young age Square has received acclaim and participated in many group exhibitions internationally.
