Royal Katiyo Royal Katiyo, born on the 20th of March 1972 in the Murehwa district and he is of the Shumba Totem. Royal grew up and was educated in Murehwa where his father is a farmer. He is the sixth born in a family of eight.
In 1992, Royal travelled to Mvurwi where he was taught to sculpt by the Mugavazi brothers, Luke and Francis. In 1994 he met Anderson Mukomberanwa, who was working for a period in Mvurwi. During his time spent with Anderson, he began to make use of the contrasting textures that now form a distinctive feature in his work. More recently, his sculpture was chosen for the catalogue cover of an important Australian gallery. Royal continues to live and work in Mvurwi, and at 26 years of age, is forcing himself into contention for a place at the top of Zimbabweīs third generation of sculptors. He has exhibited in group exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Spain, South Africa and Singapore. Artist's Sculpture (Click to view):
