Passmore Mashaya

Passmore Mashaya, born in 1972 at Elim Mission Hospital in Nyanga. He was very interested in moulding clay during his boyhood from the age of 14 years. He was one of the best clay moulders. After completing O-Levels in 1990, he went to work with his Aunt Agnes Nyanhongo, one of Zimbabweīs most prominent woman sculptors, as her assistant at Chapungu Sculpture Park in 1992.

Joseph Munemo, the husband of Agnes, who is also a prominent sculptor in both wood and stone, taught Passmore how to carve wood. As he developed his talent he continued to work with Agnes, producing some good work, which showed a powerful imagination. His earlier works derived their influence from his childhood. In them he recreated those childhood images he used to make out of clay and other material, only this time they were given new dimensions.
