Newman Chikuni Newman Chikuni, born in June 1956 in Mondoro, Zimbabwe and is of the Zezuru Tribe. He has two brothers and is married with his own two children.
After completing his education, he worked as a general labourer and then as a driver. In 1988, Newman began sculpting, initially carving small pieces of sculpture. As the years have progressed, Newman has developed his own style, which is semi-realistic. Albert Mamvura, a famous 'first generation' Zimbabwean sculptor, inspired and influenced him greatly. Much of his subject matter is linked to the animal world. He enjoys sculpting in the very beautiful Opal Stone. His work is simple yet effective in style and he pays much attention to his finish on his sculptures. Newman has participated in group exhibitions in Southern Africa and Internationally in Germany, USA, Netherlands and the UK. Artist's Sculpture (Click to view):
