Luxon M Gutsa

Luxon was born on 16 August 1969 in Murehwa (Mash East) Zimbabwe.

He attended primary school in Murehwa, later went to Harare and passed his O-Levels.

He started carving at the age of seven, under the guidance of his elder brother, Tapfuma Gutsa, who taught him to handle tools. ´´I remember selling my first sculpture in 1977, for ten US Dollars. That was a large amount of money for a little boy´´.

In 1985 Tapfuma formed the Tonga Studio, which comprised of young people from Tafara, outside Harare, where they lived. Luxon was among the group, together with the famous Dominic Benhura, Arthur Fata, Kesten Beaton, Shandukai Gundiro, Albert Watchi and a few others.

He was only able to carve once he has done his school and homework, on weekends and holidays.

After completing his O-Levels Luxon worked for his father, who owned a construction company and worked as a general worker. While employed by his father, Luxon bought his own hammers and chisel. After resigning from his fathers company Luxon started carving on his own and sold his sculpture to galleries and individuals.

Luxon has participated in local and international exhibitions.
