Luxon Karise

Luxon Karise was born in the Guruve District, Zimbabwe in 1968. He is married and is a father of two. His cousin Bernard Matemera, one of the most renowned first generation artists of our time for stone sculpture in Zimbabwe, has influenced him to be a sculptor and believes that art has developed within him.

Doing some craft work at school has contributed much to his courage and determination to work and live in the visual independent world of creation, beyond the reach of Nyikadzimu (world of spirits). This abstract sculptures have much of a sensitive and impressive manifestation of a prominent typical personality with features of the spiritual essence of our time and the past. He became a full time sculptor in 1988. That same year he joined the Tengenenge Art Community. In 1991, he joined the Gallery 2000. In 1989 he was granted a certificate by the National Gallery of Zimbabwe at its annual exhibition for the piece entitled "Woman in Anguish". In 1998 he was selected to work as a resident artist at The Chapungu Sculpture Park in Harare.

At the present moment he lives and works near Harare. He has never traveled outside Zimbabwe but he believes that it's not yet his time to travel outside his home country Zimbabwe. Luxon strongly believes that what ever he does in art is what will count his time as an artist.
