Johnathan Mhondorohuma

Johnathan Mhondorohuma, born in Mvurwi, Zimbabwe. He completed his primary school and part of his secondary school at the Holy Rosary. Unfortunately, due to a lack of financial support, he was unable to complete his education.

As a means of earning an income and supporting himself, Johnathan began carving from stone. Initially Johnathan concentrated on reproducible carvings. However, he was fortunate enough to be introduced to the late world renowned sculptor - Joseph Ndandarika, who offered him the opportunity to work as his apprentice. This was a golden opportunity for Johnathan to learn how to sculpt original works of art in stone using a variety of hard rock.

Johnathan is a third generation sculptor who in the last few years has produced some outstanding works of art. His work contains rounded lines and the subject matter pertains to the observation of people in everyday life situations. He is able to speak of human experiences and therefore his sculpture has a universal appeal that many can relate to.

Jonathan works mainly from Springstone, a hard variety of Serpentine with a high iron content. He also favours Opal stone and a cream variety of Serpentine.

A fine young artist whose work is becoming increasingly popular.
