George Mubayi
George Mubayi was born on the 27 September 1972. He recalls coming home from school and watching his father, Sylvester Mubayi sculpting. George soon became enthralled by the work, and to this day his work gives him a ´´good feel factor´´ because he is a son following in his fathers footsteps.
Observing the effects of nature as it sculpts wood, and stone through erosion and decay provokes his creativity. George is driven to break the boundaries of his generation to test uncharted areas of creativity.
His ideas begin as sketches, or scribbled down in written form and so his work is formed long before the stone is transformed into the idea ´´My work seeks to depict the trend of the circle of life, dwelling on the need for foresight, deep understanding and freedom, and this I refer to as extended sculpture - being creation on a higher level. There is always a salient academic application to every piece. I endeavour to use movement to communicate intense emotional responses, the strength of action and energy in equilibrium´´.
