Emmanuel Mtizwa
Emmanuel Mtizwa, born on the 4 September 1975 in a family of nine children, three boys and six girls in Marondera.
Emmanuel went to Chakadini Primary and later to Chakadini Secondary school for his O-level. Although he did not perform excellently, he managed to make 3 subjects in 1995. In 1996 he joined C.S.C. as a skinner and he stayed on for 2 years.
Emmanuel磗 first contact with Sculpture came in 1998 when he paid his uncle, Sylvester Mubayi, a visit and he thoroughly enjoyed what he saw. He started off by helping his elder brother George Mubayi by sanding and waxing his works. From there he learned the basics of stone caring, which include the use of basic tools like the punch, chisel and chipping hammer. Later he learned the all-important art of translating what is in your mind onto stone.
He enjoys carving human figures most. 创I enjoy carving these figures, because they are easy for me to execute, as I am in constant touch with people创 he says.
创I feel I am inspired to go on by my utmost dedication to achieve that which I feel is within reach. There are a lot of people whose works also inspire me. These being works of the great first generation master Sylvester Mubayi, and third generation artists like Derek Macheka and George Mubayi创.
Emmanuel says when he observe works from the above people, 创I feel like going jut as well. My hope is that one day I will become a recognised and accomplished artist, both locally and abroad as well as being a shining example for my fellow sculptors to follow创.
Some of Emmanuel创s work can be seen at Chapungu and people have collected some from overseas.
