Emmanuel James

Emmanuel James, born in Harare in 1974. He is of Malawian descent. His father came to Zimbabwe in 1954 in search of employment.

In 1991, after completing his O-levels, Emmanuel spent 1 year at Dominic Benhuraīs studio, learning the basics of stone sculpture. In 1992 he joined Chapungu Sculpture Park as a packer and polisher, he is still working at Chapungu. He sculpts in his spare time.

He concedes that he still has a lot to learn but is determined to eventually become a full time sculptor. His work is proving to be popular amongst visitors to Zimbabwe, and is being shown in more and more exhibitions. It is a long and hard road but James believes he has the dedication to make it.
