Elvis Mamvurha

Elvis Mamvura, born on the 3rd of March 1976 in the Hwedza district of Zimbabwe. His father, Albert Mamvura, helped channel his artistic talent which began to emerge. The influence of his rural environment and close family relationships are revealed in the abstract forms he sculpts, closely entwined in protective embrace.

Elvis's work has been exhibited by a number of galleries in the UK including The Royal Albert Museum and Art Gallery in Exeter, Africa Art in Brighton and the Worthington Museum and Art Gallery.

Elvis believes that his work is reference to the close-knit family unit in Shona society. Saprolite is an exceeding unusual stone, and his family, including his wife Lorraine is renowned for working in it almost exclusively.
