Daniel Mariga Daniel Mariga, born on the 15th of October 1975 in Chinhoyi Mash West of Zimbabwe. Daniel is the third born son of the famous first generation sculptor Joram Mariga, known as the father sculptor of Zimbabwe.
Daniel began sculpting in the early nineties, whilst still at school. He would help his father to finish off his sculptures, as is common in most families where one of the family members is an artist. Then Daniel began to recall the legacy of his father with affection and recounts of how often Joram would make sure that his work remained faithful to the shona culture. After completing his O-level education Daniel began to sculpt full time. In 1995 he exhibited a family Exhibition at Chapungu. Then in 1998, at Chapungu, he was a participant of The International Granite Sculpture Workshop and Symposium. He then began to be the residency artist of Chapungu Sculpture Park. In 1999, Danielīs work was found being exhibited in different countries of Europe. He did not look back then. In 2001 he travelled to Netherlands and Belgium where he was able to work with some Italian marble. Greened and graced in hard stones by his father, Joram. He found himself travelling to Sweden the same year to work in Sculpture Park in Kronan. He produced "Eye Witness" to establish his own directions and ambitions of abstracts in the ever-widening world of Zimbabwean Stone Sculpture. Daniel Mariga passed away in 2006.
