Claude Mapeta


Claude Mapeta, born on the 21st September 1961. He is the first born of a family of five. He schooled at Mufakose High and completed form three.

Claude started work in Bulawayo as a dry cleaning assistant. Claude moved back to Harare in 1980 where he joined Kaunda Art Centre and learned to carve in soapstone.

His grandfather, George Besa, encouraged Claude to broaden his ideas using different medium. Claude stopped doing curio-type work and concentrated on stone sculpture.

Claude is married with two children.
