Cashel Kademaunga

Cashel Kademaunga, born on 12 December 1956, in the Hurungwe district of Karoi. He is from the Kore-Kore Tribe, and their totem is Mhofu (the Antelope).

He is the last born in a family of seven children. He has three brothers and three sisters. No other member of his family sculpts.

Cashel left school after completing two years of high school and started working for Verdite Africa Pvt. Ltd., as a stonecutter. After spending two years cutting the raw Verdite stone into blocks, Cashel was thrilled and fascinated by the fact that ´´stone blocks´´ were being transformed into beautiful carvings.

In 1982, after being influenced and inspired by what was being produced he gave up his job and joined the other carvers. He specialises in abstracts and carves beautiful heads. His work has been on international trade fair held in Berlin, Bonn, London, Australia and Hong Kong.

His ambition is to become internationally known. Cashel´s work can be seen at The Gallery Shona Sculpture, Chapungu Village.
