Bywell Sango

Bywell Sango, born in Guruve in 1979, young brother of the late Brighton Sango, started sculpting at an early age, through the influence of his brother. He developed an extraordinary cubic style. During school holidays the Sango brothers used to assist Brighton to create and finish sculptures. It was from the Bywell gained the skill of cubism.

Furthermore his imitation of cubic style developed by his brother constituted to the confusion of signatures. It is true that most of his sculptures sold as Brighton sculptures. By the year 2000 Bywell started to sign his sculptures in full to avoid further misunderstanding of the nature.

Working alongside his brothers at home, Bywell have already shown some changes, expectations and possibilities for development. The competition, which was established by the Sango family, internally after Brighton is so great. Bywell have been involving his work through the passage of time. He enjoys working on cobalt, opal, springstone and serpentine.

The Artist Notes:

Any sculptures above become to set in its way. It needs some changes in expectations and more possibilities for development. My inspiration does not drive from Shona myth but rather from the shape of the stone itself. It uses the power of pure abstraction to covey-performed emotion, without the use of recognisable images and it can be personnel. It can express my emotional relations to particular situation. On my work I put more details and mountain neatness.
