Bryn Mteki

Bryn Mteki, born in Zimbabwe in 1975. He is the son of renowned sculptor Richard Mteki and he began sculpting at the age of eleven whilst at primary school. After completing his O-Levels he became a full time sculptor. Bryn is a Third Generation sculptor.

Bryn explores subjects pertaining to relationships, love, and conversation and traditional as well as westernised society. At the same time his spiritual beliefs are not ignored and they too play a role in his sculpture.

Mteki enjoys working with brown and black Serpentine. His sculpture often has areas, which are not polished but rather worked on with hand tools to create features - this creates a pleasing contrast between the smooth and rough characteristics of stone. Mteki´s skill in working with stone and his apparent comfort with the medium can be seen by the harmony in his sculpture.

In 1995, Bryn was one of the youngest artists to have his work selected for a major heritage exhibition held in Zimbabwe.

His works have also been exhibited and collected in countries such as the UK, Russia, Venezuela, Belgium, USA, Japan, Australia, Norway, Germany, France, Spain and Canada.
