Brenda Mukomberanwa

Brenda Mukomberanwa, born on 21 April 1975 in Harare. In 2000 Brenda married Malachia, Nicholas´ 2nd son. He is also a sculptor. We have 2 girls, Chido 18 months and Grace 4 years old. Brenda started sculpting in February 2004. Previously, Brenda worked as a Customer Services Manager for Chubb Union. I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa (majoring in Marketing Management) and a diploma in Public Relations. It started of as a hobby and I realised I was actually enjoying it and decided to do it full time. I also enjoy it because I work flexible hours and so have more time to spend with my girls.

I sculpt everyday hence the reason why I caught on so fast. I get my inspiration from the Christian women´s groups I belong to. I sculpt the different situations women in my country go through. My pieces are very emotional. For example I sculpted a piece called ´´empty soul´´, this piece shows a woman who has been abused emotionally and just has no more emotions or love to give. ´´The outcast´´, shows a woman who feels unwanted in the family she married into and also a woman discriminated by society as a whole. I sculpt both happy and sad situations.

I will be sending you photos shortly. I am working very hard this year. I hope to find an art dealer who will work with me on exhibitions outside Zimbabwe. I am hoping to reach greater heights in my new profession. Am also inspired by female artists like Agnes Nyanhongo. She is a brilliant sculptor.
