Bevan Katutwa
Bevan Katutwa, born the 23 April 1973 in Mutare, on the eastern part of Zimbabwe. He did his primary and secondary education in Mutare and he later completed his A levels in Harare. Bevan was born to a family of seven, his parents Paul and Mavis, two sisters and four brothers. His brother Sydney is the only other family member who is a sculptor.
Bevan began sculpting in 2001 in Harare at Dominic Benhura?s Studio. As Bevan was a computer graphic designer, he was inspired by the line and form of animals and objects, using geometrical shapes to create images he decided to try out sculpting. Bevan was taught to sculpt by Alfred Gutsa who he used to assist with sanding and polishing his work.
Bevanīs influences are depicted from the natural world as well as animals, as he perfects the finishing touches, the balance and the geometric aspect of his work.
The goals he would like to reach with his sculpting would be to teach younger artists and influence them to produce original, creative works.
