Maud Mariga Maud was born on the 19th June 1955. She is married to Joram Mariga - the father of the stone sculpture movement. He urged her to use the hardest stone such as Leopard Rock or Springstone, rather than the softer Soapstone, a material with which many other sculptors begin. Maud was trained by her husband in 1976 but only became serious about sculpting in 1989 after exhibiting in a ZAVACAD Exhibition that year. An aspect which unites her with many other female sculptors is that she often finds the subject of women an inspirational starting point for her work. Artist's Sculpture (Click to view):
