Lawrence Mukomberanwa

Lawrence MukomberanwaLawrence Mukomberanwa, born 1976, started sculpting, when he was young boy. His father, Nicholas Mukomberanwa, was a master of the first generation sculptors. When Lawrence was growing up, he played with the carving tools as toys, as soon as he was born he was into sculpting. At first Lawrence couldnīt sculpt much, because of other commitments, like school.

Lawrence finished high school and then got his certificate as an airline pilot. He worked as a pilot for about two years, but found that his love was so much more into art. In 2002, when his father died he took the decision be become a full time sculpture. His brother Anderson who was also a great second-generation artist, died in 2003. At a fairly young age Lawrence decided to take up sculpting full time and at the same time provided for his family.

Lawrence has already participated in many exhibitions, in Zimbabwe and abroad. His latest exhibition was as resident artist at the ?Masters Sculptors of Zimbabwe and their Works? in Barcelona.
