Albert Mamvurha

Albert was born in Buhera in 1954 and trained as a carpenter. In 1977 he started to carve with his cousin Nicholas Mukomberanwa and was greatly influenced by him. Now he carves on his own at his house in Chitungwiza.

He is a sensitive and serious sculptor and in the 90´s began to reap the rewards of years of hard work and perseverance. The Gallery Shona Sculpture (Chapungu Sculpture Park) has exhibited his sculpture at all group exhibitions since 1981, and Albert has sold work to ´The National Gallery of Botswana´ and many private collectors. Albert´s sons have continued to carve.

Sadly Albert passed away early in 2000.
