Luckmore Joseph
Luckmore Joseph, born on the 11 August 1979 in Zimbabwe with a passion in art. Luckmore started by drawing pictures and later jumped to weaving before he joined the world of stone carving. In 1999 it he collided with S. Majengwa, a stone carver by profession who specializes in producing Torsos. Luckmore worked for S. Majengwa as his assistant and since then he hasn´t looked back and he hopes that he will never put down the stone carving tools. Two years later Luckmore started his own thing and created his own products, since he knew that if he had to carry on producing torsos it would seem copycatting his master, Mr. Majengwa. Luckmore thought of carving pregnant women and beggars varying their sizes.
The stimulation was mainly injected by the death of Luckmore´s parents as he tried to fill the Vacuum they left in terms of the financial welfare of the family. Luckmore does his work professionally to earn a living. He sculpts by seeing the shape of the stone then starts working on the piece. Luckmore´s customers comment his pieces as marketable and good, though he has not exhibited overseas or locally but he has plans to do so in the near future.
Luckmore will continue working hard and send messages globally expressing philosophy, explaining good and bad and also differentiating comedy and tragedy in life circles using stones as a yardstick to measure performances and activities around the world. He would also like to implement unity to all races even between the rich and poor. As I believe we all are people of the same equity. Carving is now part of my life and I will by all means put excessive effort to earn a living in art and during leisure to play football and keep fit.
