Leonard Gondongwe Leonard Gondongwe was born on the 24th of May 1980 in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. He is the second child in a family of five, 4 boys and 1 girl. He did his primary and secondary educations in Harare proceeding to the University of Zimbabwe where he was studying for a BSc in Nutritional science. Due to financial difficulties he dropped out of school in his second year and proceeded to look for employment.
In 2003 he was invited to work at the famous Lameck Bonjisi’s workshop. Lameck was a student of the legendary Nicholas Mukomberanwa. Leonard worked closely with Lameck’s younger brother Lovemore Bonjisi. Working on a small stone given to him, his talent could not be hidden for long. Art collectors and buyers encouraged Leonard to work on bigger sculptures. Today Leonard creates remarkable and expressive sculptures. His art takes much of its influence from the Bonjisi.
