Godfrey Matungamidze
Godfrey Matungamidze, born on 19 January 1978 in Gutu district; Masvingo Zimbabwe. Godfrey did his primary education at Chitango and proceeded to secondary at Mawungwa, all in Gutu Masvingo. All primary level, Godfrey´s favourite subject were arts and craft. He was taught drawing, painting and woodcarving. Godfrey was very good in carving cooking sticks and axe handles. He completed his ´´O´´ level in 1996.
In 1997 Godfrey moved to Harare. In the capital, he visited his uncle Gladman Zinyeka. By that time he was already a well-known artist. Since Godfrey had art at heart it didn?t take ages for him to join the world of stone carving. Godfrey started assisting his uncle in 1998. He worked with him for a year. After his uncle?s death Godfrey continued with another artist Rangarirai Makunde.
In 2001 Godfrey started producing his own work. Godfrey?s works consist of abstract and contemporary art. He worked on Springstone, Opal, Cobalt, Black Serpentine and Fruit Serpentine.
